Upcoming February Otome Releases 2020

Posted on

Next month we are gonna feast, fam!

Nintendo Switch

Two, count em, TWO games are releasing next month! One visual novel and one sim game with heavily featured romance and character interactions.

Code: Realize ~Guardian of Rebirth~

I do adore how extra otome game titles are. Is it really an otome game if there’s not ~tildes~ or colons or italics or some sort of foreign language subtitle?

This is a rerelease of an older title. I already have this on the Vita and PS4 but I don’t remember much about it when I played the Vita version and I don’t enjoy playing visual novels on the PS4.

What I do remember is that I thought the stories were good and the art was lovely. I’ll do a more in-depth review when the Switch version releases. Thankfully it’s a tad bit easier to grab screencaps on the Switch than it was the VIta.

Game Information

Romance. Mystery. Adventure. Code: Realize ~Guardian of Rebirth~follows the story of Cardia, a young woman with deadly poisonous skin, isolated from the outside world–until a sudden clash with intruders sends her on an exciting and terrifying journey through steampunk London. Will Cardia and her father and discover the secret behind her mysterious condition? And will she find love with one of the five men accompanying her on her quest?

Special Edition?

Yes! This game has a special edition!

The special edition will include;

An artbook, keychain, and OST! I did order this edition, mostly for the artbook. I’m a sucker for artbooks. I used to be a sucker for OST but I don’t actually have a CD player anymore…. Hopefully it will be up at the usual sites (Spotify/Apple Music) and I’ll be able to listen to it while I work!

Rune Factory 4: Special

FINALLY, AFTER OVER A YEAR FROM ANNOUNCEMENT, THIS GAME WILL BE IN MY GRUBBY GRASP!

I probably put in close to 400 hours in the original version on the 3DS and I’m going to be real, I’ll probably put in just as much if not more into this one. A lot of complaints about the original, such as the difficult to trigger ending events, have been fixed in this edition. There’s also several new modes and an entirely new scenario built around your husbando or waifu.

I’m legit excited AF for this! GIVE ME ALL MY HUSBANDOS AND WAIFUS BACK

Ah, even the little sound effects sound nostalgic

THAT’S A BIG ARTBOOK

Light Novels

As I mentioned in my state-of-the-blog post, I started reading light novels last year. Thankfully, thanks to J-Novel Club’s Heart label and Cross Infinite Worlds, we’re going to have a steady stream of releases in 2020~

The Misfortune Devouring Witch is also a Vampire?!

What a title. You can always count on light novels to give you the entire premise in a title. I still can’t decide if it’s perfectly extra or too much. Technically this comes out January 31st but it’s close enough to February that I’m putting it here.

Would you pay in blood to have access to the witch’s knowledge?

Rumors about Yuuri Watoh being a witch who feeds upon the misfortune of others have kept customers away from her Eastern Medicine Shop as long as she can remember—until he showed up.

Intrigued by the rumors, Count Ernest Travis Selden, close attendant to the Hylant king and a notorious eccentric, seeks the Hinomoto witch’s specialized knowledge to solve a royal incident. But borrowing the witch’s aid comes at a steep price—one that can’t be paid in gold or jewels.

How will the stubborn shut-in vampire witch who hails from the East handle the peculiar Western Count who frequently brings her problems to solve and seems all too happy to pay the price?

It looks interesting. I enjoy paranormal stories and I especially love witch stories. I’ll give it a shot!

The Eccentric Master and the Fake Lover, volume 2

The Eccentric Master becomes a butler?!

Disguising herself as a rich young lady, Nichika infiltrates the hidden ranks at Elminage Academy for Gifted Witches and Wizards to investigate the attacker from Cherry Blossom Kingdom. All too happy to play along, Oswald completely enters Butler Mode, treating Nichika so kindly she starts to miss his teasing! But he’d better watch out if he wants to hold on to his apprentice because an old frenemy is out to win Nichika’s heart!

Life at the magic academy and a love triangle become the least of Nichika’s worries when a fake Spirit Priestess is going around tarnishing her name, and she’s entered into a broom flying competition that turns into a death race! Will she ever have time to gather the rest of the Great Spirits?!

I admit I haven’t read volume one so I can’t comment on it. I don’t think I’m going to review either of these volumes. It’s a totally ridiculous reason, but the bolded tagline for volume one is “You’ll die if you stop ingesting bodily fluids from the opposite sex.”

Surely there is a more elegant way to say that. Seriously. I can’t get past it. I gag. I retch. I cringe. Ingesting bodily fluids makes it sound worse than kissing and swapping spit. It makes it sound like cannibalism or fetishes I do not participate in.

I know it’s petty but I can’t do it!

I Refuse to be Your Enemy! volume 1

From an early age, Kiara has been plagued with dreams of another world—dreams in which a girl she doesn’t recognize plays a strategy RPG called “Farzia: Kingdom at War.” Farzia is, in fact, the same kingdom where Kiara currently lives. Oh, and one other thing: there’s an enemy character who’s also named Kiara, though her name is Kiara Credias. Naturally, as with any other RPG villain, this enemy is slain by the heroes. So when her adoptive father, Count Patriciél, orders her to marry Viscount Credias, Kiara comes to a horrifying realization: perhaps those “dreams” were visions of things to come! She hatches a plan to get the hell out of Dodge and create a new future for herself—one where she STAYS ALIVE, thank you very much!

Ah, let me tell you about my addiction: I am currently obsessed and I mean OBSESSED with otome reincarnation/isekai stories. I scour the scanlations sites. I scour novelupdates. And now, we have professional translations coming out!

I joined J-Novel Club’s monthly subscription for their Heart label, which is for light novels targeted to female audiences. Because of this, I can read the prepublication (which usually means there are a lot of grammatical errors and other little mistakes) and I am loving this novel! It’s about to end and I’ll have a proper review when it does! I’m excited to reread the polished version of it as well!

Tearmoon Empire, volume 1

I’ve already done a review for this!

Surrounded by the hate-filled gazes of her people, the selfish princess of the fallen Tearmoon Empire, Mia, takes one last look at the bleeding sun before the guillotine blade falls… Only to wake back up as a twelve-year-old! With time rewound and a second chance at life dropped into her lap, she sets out to right the countless wrongs that plague the ailing Empire. Corrupt governance? Check. Border troubles? Check. Natural calamities and economic strife? Check. My, seems like a lot of work. Hard work and Mia don’t mix, so she seeks out the aid of others, starting with her loyal maid, Anne, and the brilliant minister, Ludwig. Together, they strive day and night to restore the Empire. Little by little, their tireless efforts begin to change the course of history, pushing the whole of the continent toward a new future. And why did the selfish princess have a change of heart, you ask? Simple—she didn’t. She’s just terrified of the guillotine. They hurt like hell, and Mia hates pain more than work.

Long story short, I really enjoyed this light novel.
